Busy as a Bee

I've been so busy lately I haven't even had time to blog!! Hope everyone's summer is going well. So what have I been up to lately you ask, well here goes....

I'm still working in HPER and as a consultant, but I picked up a few other jobs along the way. For about 3 weeks I pet sat for a professor's dog and several cats (I can still name all 7 of them too). It was actually fun, they have an awesome hi-def tv so I was sad to leave that behind. The dog was super cool and I loved taking her for walks everyday. Even so, I was still glad when the "reign of fur" was over and I got to sleep in my own bed. It's funny how after awhile you begin to miss your own bed.

As soon as that ended, I got to spend a week showing 13 high school kids how to make webpages. Boy was I tired by the end of that week, I have no idea how the 24hour counselors did it. I could not spend every waking moment with those kids, I have to have some downtime. The kids ended up being pretty cool and they had a really good time. I think the best was when we went up to IUPUI and saw their Informatics building. It's really nice and has some cool stuff in it. Their cave is alot better then the one down here, but I guess that's why ours is getting renovated.

That was last week, this week I'm back to my old jobs. Except on Wed's I have to spend a few hours w/ middle schoolers for a different kind of camp. They are learning about visual tricks and optical illusions. They seem to really like it. Last week the boys were horrible but this week they were much more calm and quiet. I'm dreading how next week's boys are going to be. Jacki and I will also be on our own next week because Dennis is going out of town. She did a practice run yesterday and I think she did a really good job. She has some much patience w/ the kids and a lot more tolerance then I do!

Besides work, I've also been helping out some friends w/ their websites. It seems to be going well and it's nice to do something nice, especially when it's easy for you but really hard for them. I'm also learning how to play the guitar. It's slow going and hard at times, but I'll get the hang of it eventually. The best part is that it only costs me two Budweiser's a week. Other than that I read constantly, even so I still have a ton of Stephen King books left to read. Sometimes I regret buying so many at once! :)

why am i still so busy??

The end of the semester comes and you think 'hurray, finally I get all my free time back, finally I can catch up on the things I need and want to do'. How is it that I still don't have any free time, in fact I think I may actually have less. True, I am able to come home from work and don't have to worry about homework, but usually I'm so sick of the computer I want nothing to do with it. I have noticed I have a tendency to go out more, which could be where all my free time goes. Just a small possibility, one I do not wish to explore further b/c I don't want to give that up.

I have noticed that doing 'daytime' things has be come pratcially impossible. I've only needed to go to the bank for about 2 weeks now. It's so hard to force yourself to get up early on Sat when it's the one day you get to sleep in. As you all know, I am about as opposite as a morning person as they come.

Hopefully, I can squeeze in all the things I want to do. When you really think about it, summer isn't that long and I still don't have a capstone idea!!

hper computers

HPER got their new computers today, all 200 of them which came in about 600 boxes. You never really can imagine how many computers that really amounts too until you see them all. It actually went very smoothly but it was hectic. I'm also sure you can't imagine how much trash was generated by that many computers. When one gets a new computer the four styrofoam blocks (2 for computer, 2 for the monitor) are large and bulky but not that big of a deal. Try dealing w/ 1200 of them! Lets just say we filled up 3 1/2 dumpsters w/ just styrofoam. When things get to that scale, one has time to reflect on how much unnecessary trash is generated by the things we buy. I felt kind of bad filling up all the dumpsters w/ unrecyclable stuff. So all now all we have to do is put them together and move them to offices. Guess who's job that is.... :)

outdoor tanning girl

I am so glad that the semester is over. It's nice to have the weight of deadlines lifted when everything is all done. Now I can start to enjoy the nice weather, or can I....

I have to admit I am extremely jealous of outdoor tanning girl. Everyday I see her laying in the sun while I trudge off to my day of work. Why can't I have parents who pay for everything so I don't have to do anything?? Why isn't me who wins the lottery so I can lay in the sun?? I know how to solve this problem! I need to marry some rich!! Then I too could lay in the sun and watch others go to work. I would think to myself 'haha look at those fools! I used to be like them but I have found a better way!!' Hopefully, my skin wouldn't get all leathery or whatever happens to skin that is in the sun alot. Remember 'Something about Mary'?

Maybe laying in the sun would get boring after awhile, not to mention hot. Hmm maybe it isn't so cool, but I do wish that the buildings I work in at least have windows. And sad to know that it is really nice outside but I can't see it. That and why do they always have to be so cold?!? It's 90 degrees out and I'm sweating my ass off walking to work wearing jeans just so I don't have to freeze all day. I guess that's the price you pay for not winning the lottery!

I guess for now I can take solace in the fact that at least on the weekend I can be like outdoor tanning girl b/c I don't work during weekends!!

portfolio squared

I know the old portfolio got the job done, but there is a new and improved verison up and about. It isn't really different from a layout perspective, although I did create my own CSS (which took for ever btw) for it and the rest of the pages. So check it out and please let me know if there is anything wrong w/ it, esp spelling!

my head in a jar

I am a member of Planet Informatics so everything I post also gets put on that web page too. One thing I've noticed is that everyone who posts gets a little picture of their head in a jar (similar to Futurama) next to what is written. I seem to be the only member who does not get a picture by what I write. Is it b/c my friends really don't like?? Perhaps they are trying to forget who I am and what I look like?? Maybe they realize that I'm an alien, and not in the sense of foreign to the US, and think my identity needs to be kept secret.

What does one need to do to get their head in a jar???
